SimpleFTA needs your help

I, like most involved in the FTA industry, have accepted the fact that the work we do goes unnoticed more often than not. I understand that the main reason people come to our site is to continue their satellite programming experience, but the fact remains - I love to help. All of our Staff, Admin and Mods, love to help and volunteer their time without any payment.

We have done our best to treat all members like family and try to spend an extra few minutes assisting when we can. We're working to create an atmosphere where anyone can join our site and ask questions without fear of being ridiculed or belittled. However, there will always be the people that care nothing more than to login, download their fix, and logout - and we're ok with that.

But the truth is, it costs a lot of money to run this site as it does any business, and those costs are constantly increasing. As most have probably noticed we don't advertise, we don't recruit, we don't overwhelm you with text links and banner advertisements on every page of the site, or provide services based on any membership criteria other than simply being a member. Every guest here is a VIP, for free. But we have come to a crossroad. We've come to a point where we may not be able to continue without help from you - our members.

We have not decided how we're going to proceed, but we want your input. We've developed a short survey and are asking anyone who has 5 minutes to give us your thoughts.

You guys are the best, i know why my son loves it here, What you need is a monthly donate goal button, like they have on another site, ----.com, and they do well. i for one would press it once a month. You come out with fixes so fast and i think my son calls his buddy Jason, speedy or something. anyways Yes i do feel you deserve some sort of Monthly income on this site to help pay for server cost and such, I know its not a paycheck for anyone or for Money in anyones pocket, and as i put on the survey, if i win anything for the survey, Please raffle it off and keep the proceeds as my gift back to a great site...

Only problem with donations is it is used by the satellite provider to win in law suits. How to donate without a paper trail?

is there away to donate without having a creditcard...if so i am in...i believe a membership fee is not the awnser, a one time fee i do not believe will help financialy in the long run..for all members to donate what they can when ever they can is the key...if a member uses the site frequintly and does not donate they should be contacted by simple fta and ask for a reason no donation has been made on there part...i believe u will find in most cases a member does not donate because of no credit card or paypal account...if simple fta could find alternate ways to donate such as a mailing address for money orders and personal cheques then members without creditcards would be able to donate and help the cause of the best fta site on the net!!!!!

I just want to add a quick response to all of you who have posted so far.

It hasn't even been 24 hours since this thread was posted, and we've received unbelievable feedback from our members. And we're learning what we need to know, that you guys appreciate our hard work and want us to continue.

I know a lot of you donate regularly to the site, and participate in the few events that we've had (raffles and such) to help pay some of the costs, and that has made the difference so far. So we want to say thank you to those who have helped.

We're getting awesome idea's from you guys and they will indeed turn out to be the future of SimpleFTA. We're going to keep the survey running for a few weeks just so everyone can share their ideas and opinions.

Thanks to all who have/will participate in this survery.

I agree that PayPal is not the best way to donate, and we are indeed working on it. There will soon be many options for people contribute to the site.

it's an awsome website, what i have found here is, that you don't abuse of the mod power like in other websites, whom are stupidly banning to all people just for asking sometimes, something that does not deserve punishment, and in that way. Saying that there is no shame in maybe getting a couple respectable dealers to become site sponsors and have their names in here. Its always good to have members have a safe place to buy products and help with the load that a site costs.. Thats my 2 cents..

Nice site. I don't mind advertising. Stuff that's associated with the hobby, or close off shoot advertising can even enhance the experience. For example, electronics in general, or "free over the air" Digital and HD TV signals. I'm not suggesting adding forums for these, but if you can get advertisers, to me that seems like a bonus.

I'm not against paying for a service, however, I have seen every site come and go, not lasting much longer that a year or so. Sometimes less. I just think two things:
1) Without a doubt the site will disappear
2) This will happen faster if it becomes a "pay" site.

We have created a P.O. Box for our members convenience, but it will not be activated until tomorrow. Once it is activated we will post the address so that everyone who is looking for a more anonymous way to donate can do so.

Well sell ad space then I am sorry to say I will go elsewhere if the site becomes a pay to view members site. I was burned recently buying a VIP pen from a now defunct FTA site and will never do that again. As well we are no longer happy anonymous people then, as you know some people or corporations take a dim view to what they see as unauthorized use of a service (B3V and DN) so I would rather not have a trail leading to me. Good luck hope you figure it out it is a great site I would be sorry to see it go
